As a student who is enrolled at High Point University studying a major in Strategic Communications, Advertising, and Public Relations, and minoring in Social Media Marketing, I feel that I will have a good head on my shoulders and my studies will help guide me into a clear path of direction. I feel that High Point offers such a unique academic experience in general especially when it comes to the choices of academic study. With my selected major and minors of academic study, I feel that I will be able to practically pursue a career in Marketing or Advertising for a firm in New York City. As a High Point University student in the School of Communications, I have learned how to use a variety of platforms that could essentially be quite applicable to any job in real life. I have experience using the software and sound development platforms called Adobe premiere and Audition which could help with the creative task of video editing. In a similar sense, I have used photoshop and Indesign which have given me a clear sense of how to properly edit and perfect photographs so they look more presentable and attention-grabbing to social media viewers. Additionally, I have developed skills along the way at High Point from using Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint. These software platforms have given me a basic understanding and fundamental skills that I can use for any creative business job I will have in the future. On another note, I would say that my communications courses have taught me a lot about what presenting, group work, and time management are all about which will be rather essential to any career. Currently, I feel that the Social Media and analytics course will be rather essential to any creative job in the millennial social media industry. Using the Mimic social media platform has been rather insightful in that it has taught me how to strategically post content on a variety of platforms and direct it to a specific target audience group. As a result, my developed skills from the school of communications have given me the proper talent to succeed in any career in Public relations, Advertising, or Marketing. Before I declared my major and essentially my whole life, I had no idea what I wanted to do for my career and I was sort of lost in a sense. Now that I have been in college for three years and have taken a variety of courses and have really been introduced to creative advertising, I now have a clearer sense of what I want to do in life and I am confident that I will have the proper mindset, knowledge, experience, and skillset to achieve excellence.
